About this policy
Rust Hub (rusthub.uk) is an independent platform for discovering Rust servers and giving verified server owners tools to manage their Rust Hub listings. This policy applies to visitors, signed-in users and server owners who use Rust Hub.
Who operates Rust Hub
Rust Hub is an independent service operated by Darryl James and available at rusthub.uk. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Darryl James is the data controller for personal information processed through Rust Hub.
Information we process
Depending on how you use Rust Hub, we may process the following information:
- Steam account information: Steam ID, public Steam name, public avatar and public profile URL.
- Rust Hub account information: account status, access role and sign-in timestamps.
- Server registration information: server IP address, game port, query port, ownership/verification status and related verification timestamps or codes.
- Listing information: advert title, country/region, custom tags, listing status, uploaded advert image, website URL and social links you choose to provide.
- Public Rust server information: server name, map, online status, player counts, capacity, tags, game version, wipe information and other information made available by the Rust server through supported query methods.
- Technical information: information that may appear in normal web-server, application and security logs, such as IP address, request time, requested page, browser/user-agent information and error information.
- Contact information: information you choose to provide when contacting Rust Hub, including your email address and the contents of your message.
Steam authentication
Rust Hub uses Steam to authenticate users. When you choose to sign in with Steam, you are redirected to Steam. Your Steam password and Steam login credentials are entered with Steam and are not provided to Rust Hub.
After successful authentication, Steam provides the identifier needed for Rust Hub to recognise your account. Rust Hub may also use information from your public Steam profile, such as your public display name and avatar.
Valve Corporation operates Steam independently and processes information under its own privacy terms. If access to your Steam account is lost or terminated, you may also lose the ability to access the associated Rust Hub account.
Server registration and ownership verification
Rust Hub allows signed-in users to register public Rust servers and prove that they control those servers before management features are enabled.
Verification information is used to establish server control and prevent users from taking over or editing listings for servers they do not own. Once verification is complete, the verified Rust Hub account may be linked to that server for management purposes.
Server owners are responsible for ensuring that information, branding, images and links they submit are accurate and that they have permission to publish that material.
Live server information
Rust Hub periodically queries registered public Rust servers so the directory can display useful server information without requiring every visitor to query the game server directly.
Query results may include online/offline state, server name, map, player count, capacity, server tags, region information, wipe information, game version and other publicly exposed server data. Rust Hub may cache current results and may retain limited server-query history to provide features such as player statistics, wipe labels, troubleshooting and service monitoring.
Why we use information and our lawful bases
Rust Hub uses information where necessary to operate and protect the service, including to:
- authenticate users through Steam;
- create and maintain Rust Hub accounts;
- verify ownership/control of Rust servers;
- publish and manage server directory listings;
- provide live server-status and statistics features;
- prevent abuse, fraud, unauthorised access and technical attacks;
- diagnose faults and maintain the security and reliability of Rust Hub;
- respond to enquiries and exercise or defend legal rights.
Depending on the activity, Rust Hub may rely on performance of a contract or steps requested by you before entering into a contract, legitimate interests, compliance with legal obligations, or consent where consent is appropriate.
Where legitimate interests are relied on, those interests include operating a secure and reliable Rust server directory, preventing misuse, maintaining the integrity of server ownership controls and improving the service.
Uploaded and submitted content
Verified server owners can upload advert images and submit information such as advert titles, tags, country/region selections and external links. Published listing content is intended to be publicly visible.
When an uploaded advert image is replaced or a server listing is deleted, Rust Hub may remove the associated managed file from active storage. Temporary copies may remain in backups or logs for a limited period until those systems are rotated or overwritten.
How long we keep information
Rust Hub keeps information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it is used. Retention is determined using factors such as whether an account or server listing remains active, whether the information is needed for security or troubleshooting, and whether legal obligations or disputes require information to be retained for longer.
- Session cookie: retained for the browser/session lifetime.
- Account information: generally retained while the Rust Hub account remains active and until deletion is completed, subject to security or legal requirements.
- Server listing information: generally retained while the server remains registered with Rust Hub and removed when the listing/server record is deleted, subject to backups and legal requirements.
- Live query cache: refreshed as new server checks are performed.
- Server-query history and technical logs: retained only for as long as reasonably required for statistics, troubleshooting, security and service operation.
Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights to:
- request access to personal information Rust Hub holds about you;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
- request erasure of personal information;
- request restriction of processing;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- request data portability where the legal conditions apply;
- withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
To make a privacy request, email support@rusthub.uk. Rust Hub may need to verify your identity or your control of the relevant Steam/Rust Hub account before acting on a request.
Automated directory features
Rust Hub may automatically order, filter or label Rust server listings using information such as player count, online status, tags, wipe information, search criteria and listing settings.
These features organise the public directory and are not intended to make decisions about individuals that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Third-party services and links
Rust Hub listings may contain links to Steam, websites, Discord servers, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and other third-party services. Those services are controlled by their respective providers and their own privacy terms apply when you leave Rust Hub or interact with them.
Security
Rust Hub uses technical and organisational measures intended to protect account and server-management information. These include secure sessions, ownership verification, access controls and checks around account-management actions.
No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security. Users should also protect their Steam accounts, devices and any systems used to administer their servers.
Changes to this policy
Rust Hub may update this Privacy Policy when the service changes, new features are introduced or legal requirements change. The effective date shown at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
Complaints
